House of David (Season 1) tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. A Bitter Legacy is a 2016 documentary film directed by Claudia Katayanagi that uncovers the hidden history of World War II Citizen Isolation Centers. It exposes the U.S. government's secret prisons where dissident Japanese Americans were unlawfully rendered without trial.
While most Americans are familiar with the Japanese American internment camps, fewer know about the hidden Citizen Isolation Centers established in 1943. Built in remote locations like Moab, Utah, Leupp, Arizona, and Camp Tule Lake, California, these secret prisons were designed to isolate and break "troublemakers" and dissidents.
The U.S. government targeted two primary groups for this brutal rendition:
The Kibei: American-born citizens who were educated in Japan, making them highly suspected by the U.S. government.
Dissidents and Collaborators: Citizens who actively questioned the constitutionality of their internment, as well as informants for the government. [
Instead of receiving fair trials, these men were subjected to harsh, sometimes brutal treatment. When these illegal centers were eventually forced to close, the inmates were transferred to the highly contentious Tule Lake Segregation Center, where many endured further torture and beatings.
The film reveals historical parallels to present-day civil rights abuses and is often cited by scholars as a precursor to modern extralegal detention facilities like Guantanamo Bay. It includes interviews with former internees, historians, and legal experts to document this dark chapter of American history
